Technical advances should plug safety loophole Michael Hare, Technical Director of PJ Hare and a member of BSI Committee MTEI/1 for metal forming machinery, has expressed concern that the European Standard EN 693, aimed at harmonising safety standards for hydraulic presses across the community, could open the door to the increased risk of serious injury on the shop floor. On the other hand he is hopeful that the drop in the relative cost of more sophisticated optical guards, and the productivity increases they can yield, will minimise this risk. | |
